This year was an epic year for Womens HPV records.
Two women came to Battle Mountain Nevada this year for the World
Human Powered Speed Challenge with the goal of pushing the
womens record over 100 km/h. A record speed of 86 km/h set by
Forte! team rider Andrea Blaseckie was set 2 years ago riding
the Varna Bibbette. Ellen Van der Horst of the Netherlands is
the current Womens
hour record holder in the German made White
hawk at a distance of 68 km. After a week of attempts and
a few mishaps Ellen posted a legal-wind top speed of 59.85.
This already impressive mark was far bettered by Andrea who
turned in a whopping final speed of 103.8 km/h or 64.74mph!
Sam
Improves Old Record by 0.5mph
With nearly $40,000.00can on the line and a newly
configured Varna Diablo in his arsenal, Sam set out with the
realistic intention of bettering his previous record of
80.55mph to over 82mph. This is the speed necessary to win the deci-mach
speed prize. Everything was ready but the Gods can be cruel.
The incredible warm calm weather conditions of last year were
only a memory as we were hammered with cold and rain. After
several attempts, Sam finally managed to squeak out a run of
81.1 mph. Good for the Record but not enough for the cash.
This leaves the carrot still dangling for future takers.
