On Sam's 80 MPH crash in 2003:
"Sam Whittingham, current record holder at 81.++ mph crashed at 82 mph!!!! I didn’t see it, but all descriptions were about the same—he slid, and slid, and slid, then slide off the road, went airborne briefly, and continued sliding across the brush and sand out through the desert. They measured his slide and it was over 250 yards. That’s 2 ½ football fields. He got a good, hard, bump, and someone said he cut his finger, but he showed up at the awards dinner that night and seemed to be OK. We know that Paul Gracey got some video of the crash, but he said once Sam went off road, he just couldn’t watch anymore and stopped taping."
From the Easyracers website. Incidentally, Sam was shaken but conscious.
On the Blue Yonder Challenge in 2001:
"Queally, who won a gold medal in the 1km time trial in the 2000 Olympics, is arguably Whittingham's biggest threat.
The Briton's challenge is backed by several hundred thousands of dollars worth of investment, and his HPV is being constructed by motorsport manufacturers Reynard, which also builds Formula One cars for BAR."
From the NOW Sport Network. Sam went on to easily beat Queally, click here for more.

You want me to get in there again? No way. Although the crash shook all involved, it did prove that Georgi's designs were as tough as they were fast. Sam walked away from his crash with cut on his knuckle. Poor baby.

This what the shell of a speedbike looks like after an 80-MPH crash.

Back in 2001, Queally and his crew got all the attention, while Sam and the Varna team got all the records. To Queallys credit, he went damn fast for a first-timer.
