NEWS: Updates on Sam's 2006 World Record Plans

November 1, 2006

It has been awhile since my last report. The year was a bit of a bust. I apologize for the lack of updates. I ended up with out any financial support and not enough time to properly prepare for Arizona. I did manage to drag my sorry butt down to Battle Mt. for another go. We tried a new camera bike, but finally settled on running Diablo. I had some very fast runs and came out on top with a speed of nearly 80mph! I have now won every single Speed Challenge at Battle Mt. Seven years in a row.

Looks like Arizona is a go! the very end of June is going to be the final showdown for the Dempsey Macready Hour Record Prize attempt. Most of the main contenders have been invited including yours truly. Should be very hot at that time of year in Mesa. Time to put on a snow suit and take my Computrainer into the sauna to prepare for the suffering. Meanwhile, we have snow on the ground...................

Welcome to the new site. Thanks to KSW for getting this going. It should help everyone stay in touch with what me, Georgi, Andrea, and the rest the team are up to for our 2006 HPV goals. Of course, we hope for lots of farther and faster.

SOME PROGRESS ALREADY

So far, it looks like we could get the use of a very special track, somewhere in Arizona. Until we secure the spot I probably shouldn't blab about where it is.

As far as training goes, I have to give a big thank-you to Computrainer for sending me their latest toys. I'm already discovering why many athletes, especially those with, ahem, weather restrictions, rave about this system. Not that riding around and around Quadra Island in the rain isn't fun....

Actually, most of miles have been spent mountain biking with the hardcore locals on my singlespeed beast.

I'm starting to get used to the LCD screen already. My pillow-case technique is working perfectly [pictures of this soon].

That's about it for now. The frame building is keeping me busy, and my Naked Bikes should soon have a new webpage of their very own. Make sure to check back regularly; this is just the beginning.

Thanks for reading,

Sam

Hurry up and take the picture, I can't keep my legs flexed like this forever!

Yes, but George, if you let go of the wheel I'll go faster...."

Well, if Arizona doesn't work out, there's always a certain re-surfaced track in Germany.
